HAPPENING!
Mick
Jagger and Keith Richard are convicted of drug offences and are sentenced to
jail for three months and one year respectively. They are released pending
appeal after one night in prison.
Paul
McCartney reveals in Life Magazine that he has taken LSD, the final Beatle
to do so.
The
Beatles play their new single “All You Need Is Love” on the first
worldwide live satellite TV broadcast “Our World”.
It’s
announced that a full-length cartoon film inspired by The Beatles song
“Yellow Submarine” is to be made, featuring exclusive songs by The
Beatles themselves.
The
Small Faces attempt to prevent Decca releasing an album of early recordings
titled “From The Beginning”, however the bid fails and the album duly
appears in time to compete with the group’s new album released by
Immediate.
The
Troggs attempt to leave manager Larry Page’s Page One label but he wins a
court injunction against them which bans the group from employing anyone but
Page One as their representatives. Page does lose in court this month though
when his bid to retain a ten percent stake in The Kinks is dismissed.
The
best laid plans come to naught as Procol
Harum sack their manager, Jonathan Weston. The band cancels a string of
concert engagements, citing illness and exhaustion as the excuse.
The
Move cancel a proposed US tour because ‘They are not yet big enough in
America’ for the tour to prove successful. The group do, however, tour
Scandinavia and record a 30 minute TV show in Copenhagen, screened by Danish
TV on the 22nd. Their debut single “Night Of Fear” meanwhile, has hit
the Top 3 in New Zealand.
Marc
Bolan quits John’s Children. He attempts to form his own, electric,
five-piece band which disintegrates after a disastrous debut at the Electric
Garden in July.
Meanwhile,
Chris Townson, John's Children's drummer, stands-in for Keith Moon on
several Who gigs after Keith has an operation on a strained a stomach
muscle.
Creation
vocalist Kenny Pickett quits the group. Bassist Bob Garner switches to
vocals and ex-Birds bass player Kim Gardner joins the group.
The
Wilde Flowers finally split up when Brian Hopper quits (his brother Hugh had
left in May). Ironically, this final line-up of the band, including
three-quarters of the future Caravan (Pye Hastings/Dave Sinclair/ Richard
Coughlan) had enjoyed their most successful period, playing plenty of gigs
in the South-East. Six months later, with the addition of Richard Sinclair
(himself a former Wilde Flower) Hastings, Sinclair and Coughlan formed
Caravan.
Mick
Taylor quits his Hatfield based blues band The Gods and replaces Peter Green
as guitarist with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Meanwhile, The Gods’
keyboardist Ken Hensley moves to Hampshire where he attempts to re-vamp the
group.
Pink
Floyd appear in a Pathe newsreel film. The group mess about in the Suffolk
countryside as an appropriate accompaniment to their track “Scarecrow”.
The
Troggs shoot a promo film in Epping Forest to accompany their “Night Of
The Long Grass” single.

REVIEWS
Jon
Is It Love? : Not a solo artist, but a four-piece group with a collective name. Lead singer is supported by ethereal chanting, handclaps, harpsichord and strings in this unusual rhythmic ballad.
