HAPPENING
Principal contender to replace Rick Wakeman in Yes is apparently ex-Aphrodite's Child leader Vangelis Papathanassiou, but after three weeks of "a mutual exchange of musical ideas" it transpires that Vangelis will not be joining the band, although he will be moving to London from Paris.
Silverhead break up after releasing two albums, with singer Michael Des Barres tipped for solo stardom. Bassist Nigel Harrison moves to the USA where he eventually ends up in Blondie. Guitarist Robbie Blunt becomes Robert Plant's right-hand man in the 80s.
Quite a bit of film news this month. Slade start work on their first (and only!) feature film, "Flame", and Roger Daltrey accepts the role of composer Franz Liszt in Ken Russell's production "Lisztomania".
Cozy Powell's new group Hammer includes guitarist Bernie Marsden (ex-Wild Turkey), ex-Jeff Beck bassist Clive Chaman and keyboardsman Don Airey.
After quitting current flavour of the month group Sparks, bassist Martin Gordon forms a new band with several well-known names. Guitarist is ex-Nice and Roxy man David O'List, while vocals and drums are handled by two ex-John's Children, Andy Ellison and Chris Townson. Keyboards player Pete Oxendale had previously played organ on Sparks' live shows. The new band is named Jet.
Ronnie Lane disbands his Rock & Roll Circus "Passing Show", cancelling a bunch of planned provincial shows, due to "difficulties encountered during the early part of the projected tour".
Steve Harley breaks up Cockney Rebel after the final gig of their marathon UK tour, citing "Limitations that had become too evident." Harley then sets about forming a new line-up, retaining only drummer Stuart Elliott from the old band.
Popular Irish folk-rock duo Tir Na Nog split after a four year career.
