HAPPENING
Guitarist Bob Welch quits Fleetwood Mac and is replaced by a little-known American duo, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
The Rolling Stones are still searching for a new guitarist. Rumoured contenders now include Peter Frampton, Joey Molland, Robert Johnson (No, not that one! This chap is the guitarist with John Entwistle's Ox) and Rory Gallagher. Rory does in fact spend a couple of days in a Rotterdam studio with the Stones, but it's just as a guest of his mate, Keith Richards.
Bassist Gary Thain leaves Uriah Heep following several months of indifferent health after suffering a severe electrical shock on tour in the USA. Heep's management twist the knife by ensuring that it's made clear that Thain was sacked rather than him leaving of his own accord.
Fruupp keyboardist Stephen Houston quits the group for personal reasons and is replaced by another Belfast musician John Mason.
Ex-Mandrake Paddle Steamer member Martin Briley is Greenslade's new bass player.
Stray have a new lead singer, Pete Dyer.
Rumours grow that Humble Pie have split up.
Ex-Deep Purple and Warhorse bassist Nick Simper forms another new band with the projected name of 'Dynamite'. His old Warhorse guitarist Peter Parks is included in the line-up, alongside singer James Royal.
Ex-Free bassist Andy Fraser also has a new band, called, would you believe, the Andy Fraser Band. Other members are ex-Sharks keyboardist Nick Judd and drummer Kim Turner (brother of Ted Turner, of Wishbone Ash notoriety)
Brinsley Schwarz break up following a final tour supporting Al Stewart. The split is instigated by Nick Lowe who wishes to pursue a solo career.
Splinter's single "Drink All Day" is withdrawn from sale when BBC Radio refuse to play it.
