HAPPENING
After 'weeks of mounting speculation', it's announced that Rick Wakeman's replacement in Yes is Patrick Moraz. Refugee abruptly disband with Lee Jackson and Brian Davison 'moving on to work on other projects'.
Hawkwind add a second drummer to their line-up. He'a Alan Powell, formerly with Vinegar Joe. He had deputised for Simon King on Hawkwind's summer tour of Europe and on King's return it was decided that Powell should become a permanent member.
It's reported that Keith Relf has put together a new group which may be named The New Yardbirds (although eventually they are called Armageddon). Relf is joined by his old Renaissance colleague Louis Cennamo on bass, ex-Steamhammer guitarist Martin Pugh, and former Captain Beyond & Johnny Winter drummer Bobby Caldwell.
19 year-old guitarist John Grimaldi replaces Russ Ballard in Argent.
Drummer Jeff Britten quits Wings to concentrate on his karate studies (!)
Bowie backing musicians Herbie Flowers and Tony Newman quit.
Sharks drummer Marty Simon and keyboardist Nick Judd leave the band. Ex-Glencoe drummer Stewart Francis is brought in and the group carry on as a four piece.
Following a gig at Biba's in Kensington, Bill Nelson sacks the rest of Be-Bop Deluxe and begins auditioning members for a new line-up.
John Ford of Hudson-Ford is jailed after a gig in Atlanta, on the group's US Tour, after protesting about strong-arm tactics used by security men in what the local police called 'blasphemous terms'. He is charged with 'an act of public indecency'.
