HAPPENING
Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke of the recently disbanded Free join forces with guitarist Mick Ralphs, who had just left Mott the Hoople. Having decided to call themselves ‘Bad Company’ the trio commence their search for a bassist to complete the group.
Guitarist Allan Holdsworth quits Tempest leaving the group as a trio with Jon Hiseman, Mark Clarke and Ollie Halsall.
This month's Deep Purple rumour has Jess Roden joining on vocals as Ian Gillan's replacement. He doesn't. Instead he joins ex-Doors members Robby Krieger and John Densmore in a new group called The Butts Band.
Jethro Tull join the 'Quit' brigade when they announce an indefinite retirement from concerts. Reason is that they are fed up of the 'critical abuse' of their work, the poor dears.
Meanwhile, Ray Davies admits that his 'I Quit' outburst at White City wasn't strictly true, and that he would indeed be working with The Kinks in the future.
Following Graham Simpson, Rik Kenton and Sal Maida, the latest 'temporary' bassist employed by Roxy Music is ex-Big Three, Merseybeats, Quatermass and Hard Stuff veteran Johnny Gustafson.
Guitarist Henry McCullough quits Paul Mccartney's Wings by mutual consent, owing to those good old 'musical differences'.
There are controversial scenes in Windsor Great Park, as the crowd at a free festival (26th/27th/28th) are broken up by the Police on the grounds that they are being a threat to public order.
